Crazy Busy? 3 Tips to Reset Your Work-Life Balance



In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the never-ending cycle of work, chores, and obligations. We all have those days where it feels like there just isn’t enough time to accomplish everything. But here's the good news—finding balance is possible. With a little intention, you can reset your work-life balance and live a more fulfilled life.

Below, I’ll share three practical tips to help you realign your priorities, along with an example of how I structure my day to achieve balance. Let's get started!


1. Prioritize Your Time with a Schedule

Creating a schedule allows you to allocate your time wisely. Instead of letting the day run you, you’ll be in control of your day. A well-planned schedule also helps you make time for what's important, whether it’s your health, family, or personal growth.


Example:

  • 6:00 AM: Time with God. I begin the day with devotion and prayer. This grounding moment allows me to set positive intentions and prepare spiritually for the day ahead.

  • 6:30 AM: Breakfast. I make a healthy meal, which gives me the energy I need for a busy morning.

  • 7:00 AM: Workout/Chores. Whether it’s a 30-minute workout or knocking out a few household chores, this time is dedicated to getting my body moving and my space in order.

  • 8:00 AM: Work. I dive into work with focus. I ensure that I'm productive during work hours, so I can free up time later for myself and my loved ones.

  • 12:00 PM: Lunch Break. This is when I allow myself a mental break. I enjoy my meal mindfully and step away from work, even if just for 30 minutes.

  • 12:30 PM: Family Check-In. Whether it's a quick call or a text, I reconnect with my family to make sure everything is going smoothly at home.

  • 1:00 PM: Back to Work. I complete the tasks I set for the day, making sure to stick to my to-do list.

  • 4:00 PM: Financial Planning. This is time for checking in on my finances, paying bills, and planning for future goals.

  • 5:00 PM: Family Time. Whether it’s helping with homework or preparing dinner together, this time is dedicated to bonding with my loved ones.

  • 7:00 PM: Alone Time. After family time, I unwind. This could be reading, journaling, or just relaxing in silence.

  • 8:00 PM: Final Prayer or Meditation. Before bed, I reconnect with God, expressing gratitude for the day and preparing myself for restful sleep.


Planning your day around your top priorities makes sure that your time is spent meaningfully and efficiently. The key is flexibility. Life can be unpredictable, so allow yourself some grace if things don't go perfectly.


2. Set Boundaries and Say No

Boundaries are essential in maintaining work-life balance. Learning to say no when necessary allows you to protect your time and energy. Whether it’s declining a work task that doesn’t align with your priorities or setting limits on social obligations, knowing your limits helps prevent burnout.


If you’re always saying yes, you’re bound to stretch yourself thin. Don’t feel guilty for choosing your well-being.


Example: I’ve learned to say no to weekend work emails, allowing myself the weekend to recharge and focus on my family. By setting this boundary, I’m able to return to work on Monday with more energy and creativity.


3. Incorporate Self-Care Daily

Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. Taking time each day to focus on your physical, emotional, and spiritual health replenishes your energy and keeps you grounded. Whether it’s exercise, a hobby, or a moment of reflection, find what recharges you and make it a daily priority.


Example: I set aside 30 minutes each day to do something just for me. Some days, it’s a quiet walk; other days, it’s enjoying a cup of tea while reading a book. This small act of self-care helps me recharge so I can show up better in other areas of my life.


Finding work-life balance is a journey, not a destination. By prioritizing your time, setting boundaries, and incorporating self-care, you can regain control over your busy schedule. Remember, balance looks different for everyone—find what works best for you and adjust as needed.
